Newcastle: Consumption of milk or yogurt residual water drinks before meals can help diabetics control their blood sugar levels, according to a new study.

According to a foreign news agency, scientists believe that these drinks slow down the process of digestion of food and activate hormones in order to stop the rapidly rising sugar levels.

In a study conducted at Newcastle University, people with type 2 diabetes drank a low-protein drink of milk or yogurt residual water before meals.

Participants in the study were observed for a week in their normal lives.

The same participants were given a non-protein drink the following week and their blood was later tested to assess both conditions.

The results of the test showed that the blood glucose level was better controlled due to the protein taken before the meal.

Dr. Daniel West, of the University of Newcastle's Diabetes Research Group, said a few hours of previous research in the lab had revealed the potential of this food, the first time since then that people have Observed in normal life.

Researchers believe that this protein works in two ways. One is by slowing down the digestive system and the other is by activating several important hormones that prevent blood sugar levels from rising.
